Privacy Policy
Last updated 19 October 2026
This policy explains what the BetterEmote website (betteremote.net) and the BetterEmote addon store about you, why, and what you can do about it. BetterEmote is run by ShadowKrone, who is responsible for your data and can be reached at mail@shadowkrone.com. We only collect what BetterEmote needs to work, and we never sell it or use it for ads.
What we store
- Discord account: your Discord user ID, display name, avatar and email address, when you log in. We only ask Discord for the "identify" and "email" permissions, so we never see your servers or messages. We use your email to contact you about your account, for example when these terms change or to confirm that your data was deleted, and for occasional announcements, which you can unsubscribe from with the link in every announcement.
- Minecraft account: your Minecraft UUID and username, when you link it. The addon proves ownership through Mojang’s session check, so we never see your password or Minecraft access token.
- Your emotes: the emotes you upload (image and name), the emotes in your chat menu and the names you gave them.
- Reports: which emote you reported, the reason you wrote and when.
- Login data: when you agreed to these terms, when you last logged in, a hashed token that keeps the addon logged in, and short-lived codes for logging in and linking.
- Technical data: our hosting provider keeps short-lived server logs (such as IP address and requested page) to run and protect the service.
Why we use it
To log you in, show your profile, sync your emotes to the addon, show uploaders’ names next to their emotes, and keep BetterEmote safe. Uploads, reports, deletions and moderation actions are posted with the names involved to a private staff channel on our Discord server, so staff can review content quickly. The legal basis is providing the service you asked for and our legitimate interest in moderating it.
What others can see
Emotes you upload are public: anyone can see them, their name and the Minecraft name of the uploader. Your Discord account, your email address, your chat menu and your reports are not shown to other players. Only the owner of BetterEmote can see email addresses.
Cookies
We only use cookies needed for the site to work: one that keeps you logged in (for up to 30 days), and short-lived ones while you log in with Discord or link Minecraft. No tracking or advertising cookies.
Services we use
- Vercel hosts the website and stores emote images.
- Turso hosts the database.
- Discord handles login and receives the staff log.
- Mojang confirms Minecraft account ownership.
- mc-heads.net and the BetterTTV CDN serve player heads and some emote images, so your browser contacts them directly.
Some of these may process data outside the EU, under their own safeguards.
How long we keep it
As long as your account exists. Deleted and removed emotes are hidden right away and may be kept for a while for moderation. When you unlink Minecraft, your emotes stay with that Minecraft account so they come back if you link it again.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct, export or delete your data, or object to how we use it. Email mail@shadowkrone.com or ask us on Discord, and we will handle it as soon as we can. When we delete your data, everything about your account is removed, your uploaded emotes are deactivated, and we send a confirmation to your email address. If you live in the EU you can also complain to your data protection authority, in Denmark that is Datatilsynet.
Changes
We may update this policy. The date at the top shows the latest version. See also our Terms of Service.
